(male announcer) live from the bay area here is your kron 4 news house speaker john maynard just taking to the podium talking about the fiscal cliff. let's listen in. >> we can't seem to get the audio up. we will try to see what the speaker has to say an hour and house of channels. no deal on the fiscal cliff right now. not
7:02 am
able to get a vote last night and the house of representatives to keep tax rates where they are. speaker bay near -- john boehner we will lives is bigger in just a few moments. >> the big story is this showers. at those storms are getting closer and closer. >> wendy to. --windy now we will connect because we have our audio up >> for long-term growth and real growth and jobs in our country. we will continue to work with our colleagues in the house and senate to protect families and small businesses from the fiscal cliff. i think we saw last
7:03 am
night that the next chapter in this saga of trying to resolve the situation of the fiscal cliff. it is clear that our conference has been consistent in its commitment to doing something about the spending problem in washington and the mounting debt that has resulted. we stand ready to continue to dialogue with this president to actually faced the problem. i hope that you see that our colleagues on the other side of the capital can and do likewise and get serious to try to address the real problem of spending so we can get on to the business of growing this economy and getting people back to work. that of mr. speaker? >> a lot of remarks that you made in favor of the bill from last night would only
7:04 am
keep a fraction of tax payers from the tax increase and also the president's proposal. >> the president and i had plenty of conversations. i tell the president monday this is my bottom line. the president told meet his numbers of 1.3 trillion dollars in revenue and $850 million in spending cuts was his bottom line and that he could not go any further. we see a situation where because of the political divide in the country and the political divide in washington trying to bridge the differences has been difficult. if it were easy i guarantee you this with been done decades before. but we have to find a way to address this significant spending problem that we have and we need to find a way to improve tax reform to
7:05 am
grow our economy in a way that it will create more jobs in our country. >> are you going to be speaking with the president further? are you ruling out putting on the floor of though and the senate >> the original senate bill has come to that. we do not have a senate bill. we do have a house bill. it is extending tax rates for all americans. we have been waiting since august the first >> we heard frospeaker bear wasg to pass what he calls can be in the house of
7:06 am
representatives yesterday. that would prevent taxes are going up on most of american's. he could not get the republican caucus on board. they did not call for a vote yesterday. no matter what side of the political section you are on it was an embarrassing moment for the speaker yesterday not being able to even get a boat on the floor yesterday. the speaker yesterday said it was up to the senate to try to get something done. we're 10 days away from taxes going up on all americans and severe spending cuts across the entire spectrum of government. if nothing is done to revert the fiscal cliff that is coming on january 1st. once wall street realize the paralysis in washington we saw out features dropping 200 points overnight. now the dow was up 122. it appears very unlikely that they will get a deal done in washington before everyone's taxes go up on january 1st. at that point they could do something retroactively that could put the tax cuts in
